George Foreman Grill

You may think that the George Foreman “Fat Reducing” contact grills are all just part of the Big Lie about fat that has been keeping too many people fat— and unhealthy. But I’ve been cooking low-carb for years, and using George Foreman grills during that time. You CAN cook healthy Keto * Low-Carb food on a George Foreman grill.

EVOLVE MODEL
The currently available George Foreman grill is the Evolve model, which has interchangeable plates, temperature read-out in degrees and not high-medium-low, and a built-in timer. I don’t own that model yet, but I may buy one later in the year, budget willing.

THE NEXT GRILLERATION - MODEL: GRP4

This is the first grill I had. There are removable plates (for ease of washing), only one temperature setting, and a times-and-temperature guide that includes far fewer foods than the booklet for my later model. It doesn’t even cover bacon! It also doesn’t have the ability to be moved from the fat-draining position to a level position. But I still use mine, mostly for cooking bacon (I collect the bacon fat from the drip pan, filter, and reuse.)

THE NEXT GRILLERATION G5 - MODEL GRP90WGR

This is the main grill I currently use. It has multiple plates, including a baking pan and waffle plates. They don’t fit on my other grill, though. For most Keto * Low-Carb cooking purposes, I use the Baking Pan for the bottom plate so I don’t drain away all the fat I paid good money for.

COOKING ON A GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL
Use the instruction manual to find your food, or one similar, so you can figure out the temperature setting and the time. Always set a timer. Take notes if your food gets over- or undercooked, so you can improve next time. The George Foreman grill, like other contact grills, cooks both sides of the food at once, so it may be half the time you would take in a frying pan.
On Amazon I saw that the Evolve grill claims you can cook 5 servings at once. That depends on the size of your food, though. And whether you are cooking your meat with another food like grilled mushrooms or onions.

CLEANUP ISSUES
How I store my grill plates
READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL that came with your grill!!! It will answer most of your questions. I always use Olive Oil pan spray, applied before I preheat, to keep food from sticking and making a mess. Always let the machine cool down before removing the plates or washing. When retrieving healthy fat from the drip pan, let it cool down a bit, but it filters better through your coffee filter (or milk filter for all the farm girls) when it’s a bit warm yet.
Wipe the plates dry after washing, even if you wash them in the dishwasher. The backs of the plates will get discolored if you don’t. I also recommend wiping down the bottom of the base— the part you plug in and NEVER immerse in water or put in the dishwasher.
